We're the Only Ones Heirs of Ali Enough

"This is going to piss people off in this province," said Noel, 30, of Nashville, Tenn. "If you take away people’s ability to defend themselves, it’s going to put everyone on edge."

Under Iraqi law, each household has the right to have an AK-47 rifle and one magazine of ammunition.

American officials believe the security tactic may be part of a ploy to remove weapons from Sunnis in a province run by a Shiite-led government.
Ah, "democracy" and "community policing" in action I see. Not that the situation wouldn't be reversed were the balance of power different.

At least Maj. Gen. Abdul al-Kareem Khaleef candidly admits the obvious, that "only Iraqi security forces and government security guards will be allowed to possess the weapons."

You know, "Only Ones"...

And war is hell.

Sounds as if Khaleef would get along famously with Mayor Nagin, Deputy Police Chief Riley, and Police Superintendent Compass:

"No one will be able to be armed," said New Orleans Superintendent of Police P. Edwin Compass. "Guns will be taken. Only law enforcement will be allowed to have guns."

  2. THIS NEEDS TO BE MADE CLEAR: Under Saddam, there was no gun control. It took there "liberation" for gun control to be instituted.

  3. We knew it all along.
Some say our troops are being trained for when they return home. I'm glad some understand and reject the idea. They will have a painful decision to make.
    We have already made ours.
As for Operation Iraqi Freedom, well, such an obvious title makes one question. Or should.
Can it be that people in the Middle East don't WANT freedom? A generalization, certainly, but evidence supports it. Look at all the not-so-benign dictators even in the "moderate, progressive" countries.
Maybe the people consider them "better than the other guy would have been."
