This is it. Tomorrow will be the most crucial national election affecting gun rights I've ever seen, and I was born in the Truman administration.
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column is up.
We'll know tomorrow whether we're consigned to the frying pan or the fire.
Agreed David.
ReplyDeleteI see is in simple form. If Oboma is elected I see the end of this nation as a free nation. Think of the worst he and the liberals could do and times that by two.
If McCain gets elected, I know he voted against the AWB. But wants checks at gun shows. With the way the liberal media and the liberals have treated him I don't know if he will stick his supporters in the back to please them. So the jury could very well be out on McCain.
The jury has never left the room with Oboam.
"We'll know tomorrow whether we're consigned to the frying pan or the fire."
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree. There's enough trouble with ACORN for McCain to file suit for voter fraud if he loses, and if Obama loses they'll file suit as per their sadly Standard Operating Procedure.
Either way, we're in for another long haul, as I see it.
Your Zumbo is showing.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I can't be sure if I'm more angry or disappointed.
Why?
ReplyDeleteWhat have I said here that's different from anything I've said before?
Matter of fact, what have I said here that isn't true?
You might as well get angry Hobbit, if you're going to pull this Zumbo bullshit on me.
My public recommendation is to vote your informed conscience, meaning be aware that each of these choices carries a real cost along with your perceived benefit. The reality is, if McCain loses, Obama will win.
ReplyDeleteSo you're going to tell me that isn't scare mongering to go vote for McSame so we can only have A FEW more restrictions on our rights?
No fire in the belly translates into people not helping with campaigns, people not donating, people who even question whether they should vote at all, and people intent on teaching the GOP a lesson or voting their principles, meaning for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party or recent Libertarian convert Bob Barr.
Voting AGAINST someone who is a piss poor candidate and only a slower handbasket to hell is "teaching them a lesson"?
You know damn well that's bullshit and that's why we're where we are. Both God damned parties need to be taught a lesson, but it's never going to happen when you go on and on for months about it then tell people shit like that the day before.
I've made the mistake of supporting, or at least voting for, assholes in "both" parties and the only thing that has come from it is a further erosion of our rights.
I've voted for so-called third parties too and because of shit like you wrote today they will never be a viable alternative because all you managed to say there is that "the lesser of two evils is a good vote." There will never be a rollback of all the unconstitutional garbage with the ass and the elephant in seats of power over others.
That's why I'm pissed. I'm pissed because now I'm left to wonder if "He will not take my guns." is a statement of defiance or concession.
Like I said, point out one statement I said that was not true.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead, I'm waiting.
Everything else is just you projecting.
Kind of like questioning MY commitment to defiance while you enjoy the self-proclaimed benefit of anonymity.
If you refuse to vote for the lesser of two evils, there are two choices: you can write in my name, or you can refuse to participate in the rigged game and speak up as to why.
ReplyDeletehh, David bears no resemblence to Zumbo, in the flesh or in the spirit. "He will not take my guns" is a statement of defiance. How effective has voting for the third party been for you? Not so much? You don't get sparks by rubbing mud up against wood. David does not, to my recollection, advocate the lesser of two evils, being that he understands that that particular method gets us nothing but evil. If anything can be divined from what he said, that was actually unsaid, is that he MIGHT be a tad wary of some pretty awful stuff happening, should BHO be elected. David has a family, a home, a career, like a great many of us, and no one I know is looking forward to some heavy weather. Could you at least give the man the benefit of the doubt, and not fly off the handle because you think he's not radical enough? To my knowledge, David Codrea does not weild the power to change the political stream to suit himself, or any of us. His is a voice of reason, temper, and virtue. He is the kind of guy, guys like me LISTEN to, because he makes sense, and he is as fearful as any of us, yet he knows how to conquer fear and move on. That's all courage really is. The ability to think under pressure, and David does it everyday, which is why we are drawn to what he says and thinks. I think you have courage too, but your anger is misplaced. My experience tells me to place my considerable anger aside, and to think.
ReplyDeleteProjecting, no. Inferring as others will. You go ask Joe Average on the street to read that and see what they tell you. How many people have commented there? 1 ANTI. A whole bunch of regular readers. How many people have read it?
ReplyDeleteMcSame it is. Lets all hop on the train to every gun being registered now, that way the next gun grabbing communist will have a FULL list. You paint the picture for the average reader who believes that there are only two parties that can do anything good and to vote the lesser of two evils instead of "teaching the GOP a lesson."
For the record, I didn't make you use your real name, that was your choice. I choose to do so in an effort to state my views and to still be able to operate in a hostile environment, movies, where 95+% of the people benefit from America but hate it at the same time.
I pray you're right.
Maybe Zumbo was a bit much, but the reason 3rd parties have no traction is precisely BECAUSE of the monopoly people assume the "two" parties have.
ReplyDeleteSomeone said it best, "insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."
I've calmed a little, and I wasn't mad at David necessarily. I'm upset about the fact that we keep repeating the same mistakes. We're given to piss poor candidates that are taking us to the same destination at a different speed and instead of people standing up to the leviathan that is the GOP, the "conservative" smaller government party that ceased to be one years ago people fall in line.
Frankly, I think that was the whole point of this election. Field a candidate so extreme and anti-american in every sense of the words to get McSame elected. The media is on board. It was ALWAYS divide and conquer. The game was rigged.
"When the ax entered the forest, the trees said, 'The handle is one of us!"
or perhaps a bit better...

"When liberty is taken away by force it can be restored by force. When it is relinquished voluntarily by default it can never be recovered."
hh, it would have been more constructive to just say,
ReplyDeleteDon't Vote.
I regret to inform the polticians running for the office of president that I will be denying all of them my .000008% Thank you and have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteOh and for the record ... stock up on ammo. We're gonna need it.
I actually attended Ike's first inauguration, and I agree. When I lived in Turkey, my friends kept their handguns and rifles buried. Only shotguns were legal, and it took me months and several cartons of Marlboros for bribes to get a permit for one. Ammo was scarce; all of it but birdshot was black market. The penalties were so awful, you had to know a Turk very well before they would even talk to you about firearms.
ReplyDeleteThe Turks were traditionally more of an armed society that America. If it could happen there, it can happen anywhere.
Are your firearms registered? I hope the cops will buy your story that you sold them to some cat you met at a truck stop. Otherwise, the authorities will confiscate them.
They maun try.
ReplyDeleteIII
I'm going to give HH a pass on this. I think his reaction is truly an expression of dismay and is indicative of his anger at the level of frustration he has.
ReplyDeleteI will, unless he tells me differently, assume he said some ugly things out of high emotion just to vent his anger at the situation.
David didn't earn it, so perhaps HH will calm down and offer an apology.
Nothing is wrong with his basic premise of how we got here, he just targeted the wrong culprit.
I will not be voting for either of the mainstream candidates, but I am certain that one of them will be our next president. Frying pan or fire is exactly the situation we face. David merely pointed it out.
HH read something into it David did not say. High emotion, frustration, and despair can cause one to do that. Don't ask how I know.
Living as I do in Illinois, all of whose electoral votes are going to The Lightworker no matter what I do, I feel not even the slightest pressure to vote for McCain.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to claim high principles for my refusal to do so, but to be completely honest, I'm not sure what I would do if I lived in a battleground state.
ptg said, thank you. I served 2 years in Turkey and can verify all that you said. The U.S military could only carry firearms on base and had to store them before leaving the base.
ReplyDeleteYou may think I'm crazy but MY big hope is that IF McCain is elected, he doesn't go back and turn on ALL of us...
ReplyDeleteMcCain is NOT a friend to gun owners, we KNOW what Obama WILL do, but McCain is a wild card, I believe he has pandered the NRA and gun owners, he ran as anti-gun 2 times before...
Just sayin'...
You'll get no argument from me on that, Fred.
ReplyDeleteI do apologize for equating you to Zumbo David.
ReplyDeleteWhoever wins, we lose.
No argument. And thank you.
ReplyDelete45 Superman, I live in a battleground state so I have that dilemma. Actually, I should say that I had that dilemma. I had to sit down and come to grips with what I say I believe and what I actually believe. I have always judged a candidate on two issues before I move on to the rest of his agenda. Those issues are Abortion and Gun Control (in that order). How a candidate views the defenseless as well as those that would defend themselves tells me everything I need to know before I can move on to other issues. If your life is taken from you, you have been robbed of all your other rights. If you cannot defend yourself, you cannot defend anything … your life, your loved ones or your rights.
ReplyDeleteIn 1998 (I think) I was faced with the dilemma of what I thought were two less than stellar candidates for Governor of the State of Illinois (Ryan and Poshard). I decided to go with Ryan since he was a Republican. I violated my own conscience and voted for what was considered a “moderate.” I couldn’t bring myself to vote for a Democrat, even if he was pro-life. Today, Ryan sits in prison serving his sentence for corruption in public office. I bear a large portion of the blame for that since Poshard’s record was available at the time. If I had not been so lazy and instead looked beyond the party label I would have seen a better man (not to mention a pro-life candidate as well as a gun rights supporter).
Since that time, I have sworn that I will never be that lazy again. I have researched all my candidates from top to bottom. More importantly, I have resolved to never again violate my conscience. Panic (panic voting) is for the morally weak and unprepared. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not any better than the rest of you. I have a wife, kids, dog and a mortgage. Since we homeschool our children we have another set of worries hanging over our heads. It would be so easy to just go with the lesser of two evils. The burden seems even greater since we live in a “battleground” state that has the potential of deciding the election. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter … we feel called to lead our lives a certain way and to stand firm in our beliefs.
If we are angry about our available choices or lack thereof, it’s because we have the wrong perspective. We seem to think that the solution to anything or everything we care about comes from the top instead of from the bottom. Sure, our elected leaders set policy and issue edicts but ultimately it is the individual person that decides what the leader is allowed to do. The unsavory part comes when we are forced to decide how far we are willing to go to remain free.
“You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." -Robert Heinlein
This is a very hard sentiment to process when we have families and loved ones. Nevertheless, we better start processing it right now.
(My apologies, I was all over the place on this one. I said more than I wanted to and a lot less than I felt.)
wd, perfect.
