...is more important than squarely addressing the controversy of their creation, because there are no announcements on the H-S Precision website. It makes me wonder about the reliability of reports I've read that say someone high up in the company is friends with Lon Horiuchi.
Regardless, this conscious decision to avoid rather than address is just getting people madder. I'm seeing the next phase unfolding as industry partners and distributors are getting dragged in. If H-S management thinks they can just hide and everything will blow over, I'm starting to see how they could have been oblivious enough to print the testimonial in the first place.
Along with anger, ridicule is setting in. There's even a contest where you can win a $25 Midway USA gift certificate. (Oh, good: You can use it to get a discount on H-S Precision products!)
I don't enter contests. If I did, my submission would be something stupid and offensive, like the graphic on the right.
From what I've seen so far, I'd vote for this guy's entry. That "Dylan" quote made me laugh out loud.

ReplyDeleteDamn, David. Pass the eye bleach!
I've checked their website a few times since this blew up, and haven't seen any mention of this, so yeah, either they're asleep at the switch, tone deaf, or something. Given the number of people I've read saying they've called and/or e-mailed, it's hard to believe they don't yet understand the issue.
This thing is larger than what H-S may know. Being I've had a number of emails with information on this matter and the personal comments are along the lines of outrage.
ReplyDeleteMy hunch is they don't care along the lines of moral reasoning. The folks at H-S know what is going on and they are doing damage control and haven't come up with some BS that they believe will cool off all the hot heads on this situation they created.
If they can't come up with some BS that they feel is good jive. They will not answer. Stepping up to the plate and taking the hit for being out right stupid isn't an option because they didn't feel that way until it looked like it was going to hit their pocketbook. Watch H-S ask for a bail out.
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth... Please, just because we have a right to free speech doesn't mean we should use it to assault innocent readers.
ReplyDeleteDoes no one at all care about WHY the letter was written?
ReplyDeleteAT ALL?
Let's ruin a whole bunch of companies because their products were used for evil!
The reactions I've been seeing, I would have expected from the Brady Camp. All I've seen is blatant EMOTIONAL attacks with little fact actually in them. At least David has had the courtesy to not make blatant attacks, though he's starting to edge in on it.
No one has bothered to give a sh*t about WHY the letter was written.
That pic of Rosie O'DooDoo for Victoria's Secret made me throw up a little... :(
ReplyDeleteishida, you seem to have missed the point entirely. This isn't an attack on the type of gun Horiuchi used. The letter was written to reveal the fact that this murdering monster is now acting as a representative for a well known and previously well thought of manufacturer. I don't think it would really matter if he was representing any business, but a gun manufacturer just makes the wound all the more raw.
ReplyDeleteA great many people are still very unhappy with the horrible crimes this man committed. They have decided they will no longer support H-S or buy their products in protest. They also have decided to attempt to convince as many others as possible to do the same.
There is no coercion here, and H-S has had every opportunity to retract or explain their decision (though I don't suppose that would actually do much good in the long run now). Their incredibly poor judgment might just cost them their business. That's too bad, but that's how the free market works.
If you think it should be perfectly ok for H-S to hire Horiuchi as spokesman or whatever, you are certainly free to support them however you wish.
Yes, much of the reaction is "emotional." I hope you would react with some real emotion too if you saw a woman murdered, and people shot while coming out of a burning building.
I watched the latter happen. The emotion that put in me was pretty serious, but I had no way to do anything about it. This little drama gives us some concrete things to do, to express our outrage and give us some microscopic satisfaction that we are not just standing by while a murderer is given a pass - and probably a fat salary.
MML--he is not a spokesman. They did not hire him.
ReplyDeleteI've gone over that he was a program manager for a project they successfully competed on in another post and in comments to those posts.
He wrote a testimonial letter for their performance.
The objection is--or should be--that they then used that letter by him to market their products.
I DON'T give a shit WHY the letter was written. That's not the problem, I don't care if Hitler Stalin, or Satan himself wrote them letters.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't print those on their steaming cataLOG. They printed his. Why? You think there aren't other letters they've got? HA!
No different then the guy who used power saws to attack someone on the subway getting a glowing endorsement letter published on the back of their catalog. Actually, HS is worse.
I think it's time to boycott HS Precision. Treat these m-----f-----s just like we treat the AHSA.
ReplyDeleteH-S Precision's consumer outreach department must be made up of hard-core mall ninjas: they even went as far as to boast about endorsements from a COLD BLOODED THUG, knowing that they will face RIDICULE for such a dumba** move.
BTW, Horiuchi would have LOVED to be in Nanjing in 1937, where one can plunder, kill, and rape all for free, as long as you are serving in the Jap army.
No need for racial slurs.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened in China at the hand of the Jappanese Imperial Army was wrong, about as evil as it gets, but Lon was not there.
He is responsible for his own actions, in this case the murder of Vicky Weaver and the folks at Mount Carmel TX.
ML is right on target, as always.
I wrote a strong, but polite email and so far I have had no response.
Time to start writing to the people who do business with H-S.
We have to hit them were they live, in the pocket book!
"Dear Sirs: Have you employed Lon Horuchi? If so, I need to inform you that it is a serious mistake on your part. This fellow is a murderer, an unrepentant one at that.I believe that you have made a huge error, and if you ever plan on selling anything at all to the civilian market you should reconsider. Repent and all will be forgiven."
Folks, they can't survive on the government market alone. Way too much competition (unless there some sort of Boeing 767 tanker deal going on) for them to get enough contracts to survive as a viable entity. (BTW, how long do fiberglass rifle stocks last under field conditions?)
ReplyDeleteThe pocketbook is where it counts, and the most effective way is through their distribution outlets.
Probably the folks at H-S are the same type as Horiuchi. You know, kill anything that doesn't salute the Rag - er, I meant Flag and believes patriotism is to one's government. You know, the Blackwater types and The FBI/ATF/DHS Cheka-goons. These are the guys that when guns are outlawed will be exclusive suppliers to the illegitmate government.
ReplyDeleteIf guns hare outlawed, I will be an outlaw. I hope karma catches that ragb******.
ReplyDeleteFreedomIsAnAK,
ReplyDeleteBlackwater - why do you group it with FBI/ATF/DHS etc? Trust me, these guys aren't. The majority - probably close to 70+ percent think alot like us.

Even if they don't care about the public's opinion on this they will care if they start losing corporate customers. Start by boycotting the companies on thier ad, then companies that carry thier products. Some of these companies didn't even know about the ads or that HS even used thier logos. Go to www.awrm.org and search for Horiuchi for a scanned copy of the ad and contact info for several of the companies.
