We're the Only Ones Taking Care of Ourselves Enough

Somali pirates hijacked a chemical tanker with dozens of Indian crew members Friday and a helicopter rescued three British security guards who had jumped into the sea, officials said.
See, that's the answer to the age-old question "Who will guard the guards?"

If this doesn't put the lie to trusting your security and safety to a professional class of "Only Ones," nothing will. Because remember--by doing it for a living, they're demonstrating right there they're in it for Number One.

There is a silver lining to that, for those who can recognize it as one...

  1. They never had to deal with loosing before this situation. So they tucked tail and ran or swam in this case. I'll leave it to everyone to figure out how this fits into a larger picture.
(note: swam and ran seem to sound alike)

  2. Unarmed security on the high seas? Hijackers only need bows and arrows to get a leg up, leave the heavy, cumbersome AK's and RPG's they don't need 'em.

  3. I was gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and call it a tactical retreat, until I read the "unarmed" part.

I guess they were just on board as "knee breakers" to keep the crew in line.

  4. No, they are afraid of being considered pirates themselves if they open fire with real guns in defense of the ship. Their "security" is all "speed the boat up!" and "hit 'em with the air horn!"

I saw that on a show about some British company going into business as unarmed antipiracy security and wondered how anyone could possibly think it would end well.

So when do the private Q ship cruises start? Innovative profit-making opportunities for the 21st century!
