Will you shoot me because my skin is black like presidential-elect Obama? And, if you pull the trigger will you look me in my eyes to see Susan as a project team member who is black or a black woman who happens to be a project team member? And, when my blood is pouring out of my body will you watch to see what color it is? [More]Good grief, lady. Got issues much?
And aren't you glad her vote cancels out yours?

I had a co-worker like that, except instead of being different races and philosophies, it turned out our backgrounds were remarkably similar.
ReplyDeleteShe lived between two drug dealers in the city and was afraid to do yard work or let her child play outside. I lived in the suburbs and have guns and the ability and willingness to use them so I don't care if the neighbor is a drug dealer.
She was afraid I'd "go postal" if someone disagreed with me at work. I was afraid some other employee going postal might tag me someday, and we have had incidents...
Recently she gave me a heartfelt apology with actual tears in her eyes. She took a chance and got to know me as an overly nice, reasonable person who would most likely risk his own life to protect hers or her child's. The capacity to UNlearn distinguishes us from lower forms.
Can Susan unlearn, or will she cheer on the jackbooted thugs who are ready to look in OUR eyes and pull the trigger?
On a related note:
ReplyDeleteThere was a flap about a freelance photographer selling photos of a shirtless Barack Obama during his Hawaiian vacation. He went to get photos of the estate where the Obamas are staying but there they were on the beach in plain view.
"Members of the press corps traveling with Obama have been careful to respect his privacy."
When he resumes his Chicago-style corruption and heavy-handedness, they'll respect his privacy then, too.
There's a difference, you know. They showed Bill Clinton and all the George Bushes jogging with their skinny sun-scared legs sticking out of their shorts. The official White House photographer published a shot of Nixon picking his nose.
But the Emperor must be respected.
