For Whom the Bell Tolls
Why, for you, of course.
See, that's the problem in this country--particularly in those areas where gun abuse is prevalent: Too much individual responsibility and freedom. Why, if only we'd assume collective responsibility for the choices of others, not just for gun ownership, but for everything, just imagine the "social justice" we could achieve!
Repeat after me: Less personal accountability! More collective guilt!
Ivory tower egghead Bernard W. Bell said it. I believe it. That settles it.

Everything Will Be Alright...
...if you just give them what they want.
Thank goodness these people had no gun--it could have been taken away and used against them.

"An Aspiring Rapper"
An aspiring Savannah rapper who was shot and later died was committing a crime when it happened...Not that I want to draw any unwarranted conclusions here...
The robbery victim shot Grant in self-defense...
Grant, a father of five young children with another child due in December, died of his injuries on July 25.
Y'know, if only they disarmed you and me, this kind of stuff wouldn't happen.
Support Your Local Rape Gang
...the deputies told the young boy he'd make a good "girlfriend" for some of the other inmates.William N. Grigg will tell you more--if you can stomach it.
I first heard about this case yesterday over at Billy Beck's, who links to further comments from Wendy McElroy.
What is it about "the system" that makes these sadists confident enough in their action to even contemplate something this horrible, and do it so brazenly? What is it about "the system" that relies on --and promotes--moral defectives?
And remember--any one of us could be placed at the mercy of such monsters--all you need do is get caught defying an unconstitutional gun law--in which case, expect no shortage of "enforce exisiting gun law" types to assure each other how such an extremist got what was coming for not working to elect leaders to change the law first, and how that makes us all look bad.

We're the Only Ones Given the Benefit of the Doubt Enough
Seattle police Sgt. Rich O'Neill, president of the Seattle Police Officer's Guild, said he had not been contacted regarding the shooting, but said that officers have a right to protect themselves and should be given the benefit of the doubt while the allegations are investigated. And I give Sgt. O'Neill the benefit of the doubt that he would have made an identical statement had the gunfire come from the Hells Angels rather than the Iron Pigs, and that none of them would have been arrested.
Don't you?

A Maryland Shooter
Last night at 12:30 pm a MD State Police "Armed Response Team" showed up at our door. I was dead asleep, my Wife was laying some ceramic tile on our basement floor when our driveway alert went off several times. She looked at the camera monitor and screamed that Police in Assault gear were running up to our front door. That made me sit straight up from a dead sleep...Read the whole account and then come back for some commentary.
Done?
The following observations were sent to me by a regular correspondent and blogger--who, this time, fears making his identity known for reasons he explained to me and which I will not go into now. Here is what he had to say about this "situation":
There are no laws in the State of Maryland whatsoever that cover the use of ammunition logs at the point of sale. None. This is pure policy intimidation on the part of local and State police and if you are in Maryland and presented with a requirement to sign such a log, REFUSE politely and call a lawyer.
There are no laws in the State of Maryland that restricts the type or quantity of ammunition you may possess. The only requirement is that you are not permitted to purchase handgun ammunition if under the age of 21. If the police show up and question you about your purchases or their quantities, REFUSE politely and call a lawyer. Request to see ID and demand to see a warrant.
There are no laws in the State of Maryland that restrict you to regulated firearm ammunition for firearms that you own that are on record as having been purchased in the state. The fact the police are using these purchase/registration lists is yet another reason to abhor gun registration and to use it as a club against anyone who suggests it is a "safety measure".
There is no requirement in the State of Maryland that requires to you register firearms that are regulated that were purchased legally before moving into the state. Registration is voluntary. The fact that the police is suggesting a law-abiding citizen register their arms to prevent further harassment is an abuse of their authority. If they suggest it, REFUSE politely and call a lawyer.
And lastly, there is no requirement in the State of Maryland or anywhere else in this country to let any police officer into your home or answer questions about your law-abiding activities in the absence of a warrant detailing the premises to be searches, items to be seized and/or the charges you are facing. If an officer asks any of these things of you, REFUSE politely and call a lawyer.
I have no words to describe how it feels to live in Maryland under such a threat for having done nothing wrong. To any gun owner in Maryland who thinks such "ammunition logs" or use of the regulated arms purchase registry in such a fashion to be no big deal, think again.
If you own regulated arms in Maryland, buy your ammo out-of-state. Don't give anyone anyone a single round of ammo to use against you. Not one.
Then get out if you can.

Just remember Olafson [sic] will do more than 2 years in jail for loaning out a gun acknowledged by the ATF as unsafe and malfunctioning in the 1980's while someone selling machine guns to drug dealers got 24 months. Fine state of affairs.Forum posts are typically entered without final edit, so don't hold typos and misspellings against the author--his facts and observations are what matter.

We're the Only Onesh Four Timesh the...Who Put That Fence There?
An Indianapolis police officer arrested in a drunken-driving case Sunday has been involved in two prior alcohol-related accidents in which he was not charged. His patrol car was involved in a third case in which charges are under consideration. So he's been getting away with this for years--with the department's knowledge. That means this is the "Only One" judgment they knowingly employ to interact with the citizenry.
All of the accidents involving officer George Leon Benjamin, one dating to 2002, involved city vehicles.
...Benjamin refused to take a field sobriety test, the report said, but a breath test later determined his blood-alcohol level was 0.32, four times the level at which a driver in Indiana is considered intoxicated.
I wonder how many convictions, where much of the evidence was based on his testimony, will be reevaluated?

Why Guns Don't Belong in National Parks
Officials at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park say a black bear mauled an 8-year-old Florida boy and the boy's father was injured while defending him.Besides, "Only Ones" arrived long after the danger was over to make things right with their guns, so what's the problem?
So listen to the Retired Para...uh...Park Rangers and accept the fact-backed-by-force that, as long as we allow outselves to be ruled by the help, green blood will trump red.
Who She ALLOWS
Capt. Dave Nighswonger said Hutchens will probably be more restrictive in who she allows to carry a gun for protection. The new policy warns that the permits will not be issued for political, social or reasons other than safety. And who better to determine YOUR "good cause" than a career "Only One"?
If I were an OC voter who believed in permits, I'd take it out on the supervisors who confirmed her, Moorlach, Bates and Nguyen.
This Day in History: August 12
As to the Expedition proposed against Nova Scotia by the People of Machias; I cannot but applaud their Spirit & Zeal, but after considering the Reasons offered for it several Objections occur which seem to me unanswerable. I apprehend such an Enterprize inconsistent with the general Principle upon which the united Colonies have proceeded. It is true, that Province has not acceded to Measures of the Congress and they have therefore been excluded from all commercial Intercourse with the other Colonies; But they have not commenced Hostilities against them, nor are any to be apprehended: to attack them therefore is a Step of Conquest rather than Defence, & may be attended with very dangerous Consequences.
