A new bill introduced in the Congress by New York Republican Rep. Peter King requires mobile phones with digital cameras "to make a sound" when a photograph is taken.I have a better idea. Why not just tie cans to Peter King, so we'll all know a rights molester is approaching?
The move is part of the 'Camera Phone Predator Alert Act' and the idea is to ensure privacy and safety of the public, especially children, claims the bill. [More]
Where do the Republicans find these nitwits?
And naturally, he's also an idiot when it comes to guns (GOA gives him an "F").
[Via Avg Joe, who wonders if this might have something to do with it]
And this scion of freedom is making noise about challenging the NRA A-Lister in '10.
ReplyDeleteCONgress is filled with dangerous, delusional and invincibly ignorant pipsqueaks...it's our fault and only we can fix that. Flush this (congress) toilet again and again, until the water of liberty runs clear.
ahh, so now do you think putting term limits on house and senate are a good thing? I think it would help with these kind of problems...
ReplyDeleteOver at OCDO, the advice for those who Open-Carry is to have a digital recorder somewhere in your pocket -- you know, just in case...
ReplyDeleteWell, imagine a federal law that would require all such recorders to BEEP every 10 seconds.
Lets cops know they're being recorded. Hey, it's a public safety measure!
and, of course, while recording video, all phones should be required to project this video onto a nearby wall of sufficient viewing size and play the audio at no less than 85 dBA.
ReplyDeleteit's the least we can do.
This man suggests this soon after cell phone cameras keep BART subway police from covering up yet another murder of a member of the public IN public? Easy to see which philosophy King supports. They have no shame, no compassion, no respect for anyone but their own.
ReplyDeleteHe'll be riding in his limo, of course.
Any Democrat or Republican from New York ought to be immediately suspect...
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that Bloomberg was a Republican (until it became inconvenient). Alternatively, there are some Dems who are pro-gun (e.g., Boucher in VA).
An attempt was made to blackmail an Indonesian President back in the 60's, with pictures of him in a sexual liason with a much younger woman. Instead of being initimidated, the President asked for extra copies of the pictures so that he could show everyone that he still had that capability.
ReplyDeleteJust as police car videos now are "lost", microphones turned off or covered, and the suspect intentional moved out of camera range, video cameras will either reinforce or destroy the officers' credibility and can be used as evidence (for or against the suspect) and for training (reinforcing appropriate action or demonstrating inapproriate action). The camera is neutral and unbiased, and when held by bystanders to an arrest, uncontrollable by the officers. Witnesses can me manipulated, video less so.
Peter King has a pretty impressive resumé of rights-molesting, by the way. Read his wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_T._King#Controversy
ReplyDeleteKing has been criticized for his staunch support to allow the government to eavesdrop on American citizens without court-authorized wiretaps, for his support for the Iraq war, and his claims that "Iraq is 95% safe." In February 2006, King said that things were blooming in Baghdad and that being in Baghdad was like "being in Manhattan."
In late August 2006, King endorsed racial profiling as a law enforcement tool. He proposed that people of "Middle Eastern and South Asian" descent go through additional security checks due to their ethnicity and religion, saying that all Muslims aren't terrorists but that all recent terrorists are Muslim.
Prior to the 2004 election, at a White House BBQ in the Summer of 2003, King stated in reference to the election: "It's all over but the counting, and we'll take care of the counting."
And Long Island just keeps voting for this classy dude.
Even if cellphones were required to make a sound whenever a photo was taken, any enterprising hacker could simply disable the sound and the instructions would be on Youtube an hour later.
ReplyDeleteOur politicians are sometimes really stupid.
Speaking of privacy and technology: Swiss police said today they stumbled across a large marijuana plantation while using Google Earth, the search engine company's satellite mapping software.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they were just checking to make sure their version of Emergency 911 had accurate data...
