A gun used to kill a woman last month on the Far West Side belonged to a Columbus police sergeant, and investigators are trying to figure out how the murder suspect got it.

Sgt. Douglas Williams, a 31-year police veteran who works in the Strategic Response Bureau, has told homicide investigators that he didn't realize the gun was missing until detectives asked him about it. [More]

See, this is why we should have never stopped suing gun manufacturers, and why we need registration, ammunition accountability, no gun show loophole... 2. Obviously Columbus has no law requiring owners of guns that are stolen to report the theft within 24 hours... or does it, with an exemption for Only Ones?
And look how that can bite anyone.

  3. Do you reckon that if this had happend in Pittsburg, that Sgt. Williams would be facing charges for not reporting his gun stolen?

Or did that bill not pass?

  4. I'm sure though that if the laws requireing "stolen or lost" guns to be reported in 48 hours were already in effect for us mere mortals the "only ones" would still get exemptions from that requirement.

Excellent point, David! You should send me all of your DIDs so that this sort of thing will never ever happen to you. You'll sleep better for it.

    Trust me. :D
