With Friends Like These...

I took a screenshot of an ad on Drudge yesterday:

It clicked over to here:

...which is somehow affiliated with Newsmax.com, an ostensibly "conservative" site.

Thanks, guys. Nothing like implying an unfounded and hurtful conclusion about handguns. We really appreciate you reaching millions of people with that imagery.

And as long as we're segueing into stooges, is the advertisement photo you're using to make money with one with a licensing agreement?

  1. David,

The ad is also wrong. Deaths due to firearms in the US in 2005 (most recent data available) were 30,694. Cars killed more people than that. The data isn't hard to find for anybody willing to look for it. I posted a link on my blog to the source data just yesterday.

  2. I don't see that image today. They must have gotten caught in a sh--storm of objections.
ADT, the home security company, used to run print ads with a handgun on one side, labeled "Home security that kills," and an ADT yard sign on the other, saying "Home security that protects."
I called the number and complained. The rep said they were discontinuing that ad. haven't seen it since.
Medical mistakes kill 200,000 people a year just in the U.S. have someone in a surgical mask Hold up a SCALPEL scalpel and take a scary picture. Jerks.
In fairness, the gun issue is at the center of our conscousnesses, but has little meaning for many. It's not a right they care about. The ones they DO care about are now being pinched, though. The "fairness" doctrine. Tobacco as controlled substance like any drug. Motorcycles and minibikes with "too much lead in them" being banned from being sold. A rising tide eventually lifts all boats. Or submerges them.

  3. What's wrong with that image? The 1911 is the Number 1 killer. That's why we still use it a century later.

Oh... did they mean it like a bad thing?

  4. David, I saw that, too.

    Dumb.

  5. I've received Newsmax for several years and am discontinuing. They have increasingly strayed away from conservative slant in their articles-sometimes into leftist land. The Dr they use in the rag on the last page is your typical AMA pro-pharma (pro-drug) guy. Would never listen to anything he says.

  6. It would be interesting to find out how many of the people who commit the very rare, but very well publicized, mass shootings are on prescription drugs...and how many are NOT.

BTW, my grandmother was terrified of HOSPITALS and DOCTORS and now we all know why - they are far deadlier than all other forms of wrongful death combined...physician - HEAL THYSELF!
