We're the Only Ones Resourceful Enough

An altercation between a South Carolina high school student and a school resource officer ended tragically Friday with the student dead of a gunshot wound and the officer hospitalized after being stabbed. [More]
Assuming it was a righteous DGU, it still leaves the question of how anyone else on school grounds not an "Only One" would have been able to defend themselves against a knife attack--seeing as how the most effective "resource" is legally denied them.

One thing we can be sure of: this will be tallied as "another child gun death."

  1. David,

Don't you realize it is a case of officer safety? Can't you see how valuable is the life of a "school resource officer"? Don't you see how tragic it would be if students had the same means of defending themselves as SRO's? Hell, there would be cases of legitimate self defense left and right! Then the snitch/informant link diagram would collapse! Then inmates, uhh.., I mean students, would have to deal with each other with integrity. They would start to value things like fairness and equity and... HELL! Then where would our socialist Utopia be???

Have you thought this through at all?? It is just that one student should...uhmmm I mean...uhmmmm, well, to make an omelet you have to crack a few eggs. So there!

Why was this officer in a room with a closed door and alone with this 16 year old boy?

  3. Because he could be trusted to keep a cool head and not let things get out of control?

  4. oh, he "controlled the situation," alright.

the student requested to see this guy. gang initiation rite, perhaps?

of course the student is 16, so in most cases and in most places, not even the police would disclose his identity. however, funny that the school won't name or show pictures of the "officer." i didn't think it was up to them.

  5. If anyone here is in S. Carolina, maybe you could follow up on this and get the real skinny. We're not apt to see any more of it in the "news" unless someone leaks the story...

I can't help but wonder why the officer didn't just run away or fall down and roll up in a ball. Wasn't that exactly what one school told a student who defended himself, just before they suspended him?

  7. There is only going to be one side of this story, the only person that is alive after the door was opened.
Notice how the police asked the school to not make any statements. They clearly want only one side of this to be told.
My personal view is, the cop should never be in a room alone with a closed door with a juvenile.

  8. I can't figure out what he stabbed the cop with. Maybe a pencil... I know that knives are illegal to have in school, so it couldn't have been a knife. Maybe it was logan berries...
