MN Gubernatorial Candidate Harley Swarm Nails Gun Rights Questionnaire

Harley Swarm, Constitution Party member running for governor of Minnesota contacted me and submitted his answers to the questionnaire, and I want to share them with you. I think when you read them you'll see why... [More]
It's pretty nice when candidates approach me and volunteer answers to the questionnaire. So I wrote a second Gun Rights Examiner column today to highlight the experience.

Ninnie Shapiro

The rifle allegedly used in the cowardly slaying of Seattle Police Officer Timothy Q. Brenton on Halloween night is not a “military-style assault rifle” as asserted in a Seattle Times report, which was subsequently used by Seattle Weekly reporter Nina Shapiro in an attempt to blister a local gun rights advocate, Alan Gottlieb. [More]
Dave Workman takes an ignorant "crusading journalist" who wants to "ban assault weapons" to task.

Perhaps she hasn't thought through the consequences of enforcement. I asked her to walk me through them.

Meanwhile, Across the Pond in Sarah Brady Paradise...

A grandfather was arrested in a dawn raid and held in a police cell for six hours - for using a single swear word in front of a council official. [More]
Enquiring minds want to know who the "official" was, so that we can perhaps send him sentiments of our own--along with an invitation to do something about it.

We're the Only Ones Taking Care of Business and Working Overtime Enough

Ware claims that certain Chicago Police Officers have a history of making false arrests because they get overtime pay to attend court, "regardless of the arrests' validity." [More]
So why shouldn't they be able to kidnap you? They're not just "Only Ones," they're Chicago "Only Ones."

Forget it Jake, it's Chi-Town.

There I go denigrating instead of glorifying again.

We're the Only Ones Academic Enough

An officer accidentally shot himself in the ankle at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy Monday morning. [More]
I suppose if I pointed out that "negligently" might be a better word, or that this is yet one more example of police not being the "Only Ones" professional enough to carry guns, it would all be academic?

And I guess it's not in the public interest to know exactly who on the force represents a demonstrable danger to himself and others?

A Force of One

Mike Mataria said he hates guns, but a second apparent armed robbery at one of his convenience stores “forced” him to buy one. [More]
Actually, Mike, it's the people who hate guns who introduce force into the equation. They don't want you to have a say in the matter, and they're willing to set state enforcers on you to make it so.

As for DA Kochems saying “This owner going out and buying a gun is not helping his employees one whit,” maybe we should apply the same assertion to Mercer County employees--particularly the ones with guns who will be nowhere around just in case any store robber doesn't realize he's only supposed to ply his trade after hours. Which would make him more of a burglar than a robber...

Oh, and Mike? Get those gun lessons. Who knows, you might even find out that a key component of hate is ignorance...

Can Mexican Police Violence be Stopped with More U.S. Gun Laws?

Why, whatever can we do about it? As I reported last month, the Binational Task Force on the United States-Mexico Border thinks reinstituting a ban on semiautomatic firearms here in the U.S. is just the ticket. The theory is, if you restrict choices for honest, peaceable people, you'll reduce options for the corrupt and violent. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column headline demonstrates that there are, in fact, stupid questions. I ask one to show how monumentally stupid the answers some come up with truly are.

This Day in History: November 10

With respect to the views of the Navy Board for securing the Frigates. The situation of the Army would not admit of a compliance with them, supposing they would Answer the end. I have therefore written to the Board in the most pressing terms to have the Frigates scutled in such way, that they may be raised when it shall be necessary, and that in the mean time, they may not be liable to injury from floating ice. I see no measure so likely to secure them to us and against the Enemy's attempts. I have been extremely fearful they would have possessed and employed them with the Delaware and their [floating] Batteries on the rear of the Gallies and the Fort, while the Ships below attacked in Front. I need not point out the probable consequences of such an Event, they are too obvious. [More]
Also, in another land and another time, some people who did not have guns were cleaning up broken glass...
