Cycling back to terrorism, the elite planner’s response to threats like underwear bombs is to build elaborate but increasingly brittle security systems in which airline passengers are involved only as victims. The CAS response would be to arm the passengers, concentrate on fielding bomb-sniffers so cheap that hundreds of thousands of civilians can carry one, and pay bounties on dead terrorists. [More]CAS?
I include links for a reason.

Still haven't found what CAS is.
ReplyDelete"complex adaptive system". Eric Raymond writes some good stuff from good viewpoints, so don't be too hasty to put it off because "tl;dr".
ReplyDeleteThis solution is too simple and intelligent. The government will never go for it since it accomplishes the goal of fighting terrorism and does not increase the gov't's power over the people. It's just too good to be true for those who can't accept the truth.
ReplyDeletea truly adaptive system is planned from the stimuli itself by the owners. this is why respect for property rights is important. this is why it forces moral decisions to be made. we can in fact rely on others to plan for their own property.
ReplyDeleteso you can see that to the contrary, he is still planning a solution by failing to address the issue of property rights. unless A&D owns or operates a plane i don't know about? or contractually speaking on behalf of other pilots?
and that is why the negation of such liberties erodes society on all of these levels. thy silver become dross, thy children rebellious.
the commenter ajay picks up on this theme:
"Whether it’s govt or private security agencies, the people around you decide what’s safe and most will not tolerate arms outside your private property. They’ve already seen plenty of gun massacres, including kids slaughtering their classmates, they don’t need further evidence. I suggest you actually think about what best keeps people safe rather than casting gun rights as some religious crusade."
