Metro Parks, Serving Summit County has received state approval to shoot 300 white-tailed deer this winter.
Park sharpshooters are expected to start soon, said Scott Peters of the Ohio Division of Wildlife. [More]
No doubt because the rest of us aren't crack Ohio government worker "Only Ones"...
Where the Hell is PETA? Or all those protesting guns in parks? Of course we couldn't have regular hunters harvest them. Better to hire government thugs to kill them and waste them.
ReplyDeleteCan't say as I'm delighted with this, but it's not all that bad. The shooters are harvesting the venison and it's all donated to the local food bank. They do also allow controlled bow hunting in some areas, so I would assume that opening the areas to general hunting are a question of proximity to population rather than a fundamental problem with hunters.
ReplyDeleteOf course the "green" answer would be to introduce a wolf pack and a few big cats into each area. I'm sure PETA would approve.
No need to hunt the deer, just drive around in an expensive car, with the deer rifles, at high speed where the deer are known to be, and Voila! They'll show up.
ReplyDeleteSean, do you know why the chicken crossed the road?
ReplyDeleteWait for it!
Just to show the damn deer it could be done.
"The deer will be shot at baited areas in closed-off parks at night by park personnel from
ReplyDeleteelevated stands."
I know this may be a stupid question, but:
Why not issue 300 controlled hunt tags to interested hunters via lottery at $25 a pop?
Or would this make too much sense?
Yep, too much sense. Can't have that in public policy, the progressives say it's icky.
