NJ police officer dies in accidental shooting [More]The incident as described indicates a level of negligence I would not expect from someone who has received even rudimentary gun safety training. At a time when survivors are hurting, I didn't want to exploit this with a flippant "Only Ones" title, but how an officer could make such a grave mistake is something I just can't fathom.

Gee, he's eligible for both Lee Paige and Darwin Awards.
ReplyDeleteMore seriously, I'm always suspicious when a cop manages to shoot himself in the head. I can't help thinking... suicide cover-up. Otherwise, you'd think even a cop would say, "Whoa! I'm staring down the muzzle of my gun. I think that violates one of the basic rules."
Well, Carl... remember the difference between genius and stupidity:
ReplyDeleteGenius has limitations.
Would you all think I sounded too cold if I said, "One less damned fool underfoot."
At least he won't be out there abusing his authority and the people anymore.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, this time "Lee Paige" was lethal.
I wonder if those who press for requiring semi-automatic firearms to include the magazine disconnect "feature" want to require that for everyone's guns, or just non-"Only Ones'."
ReplyDeletei cannot see how anybody can make such a stupid mistake. of course, once you can see how someone could make that mistake, you've made it, and you probably won't be sharing your insight.
