  1. There’s a story at this link saying that up until 27 February 2010, Monticello, GA, a town with a population of 2500 had a police department of 15 sworn officers and support staff.

    I thought the reporter must have meant 25,000 people when I watched your link to the CNN story so did some additional checking.

    The folks in Monticello must be some tough critters to require a police department of 15 employees. Most small towns of the same size in the Texas panhandle, that even have a police department, have been getting by with 1 and 2 man departments for their entire history.

    I expect that after a spurt of minor lawlessness, things will become ever more peaceful as they go longer and longer without a police dept.

    WWW, the little town I grew up in and around had a pop. of 3,000. At one point we had one cop. His patrol unit was a steel folding chair he sat in on the corner where our one traffic signal was. He only did that on saturday nights.

    the word verifications is "tazeds". Fitting don't you think, there'll be less of it now in Monticello, Ga.
