Let's chalk one up to training and allowing access to one's maturing children as opposed to complete ignorance and denial of access. In a "safe storage" state those children may well be dead now.
I live a few miles away from where this happened. The Houston community is gathering around this family. A local talkshow host Michael Berry is asking the community to step up in support of the boy. What the media had gotten wrong in this story (Shotgun, Rifle, Automatic Rifle, Assault weapon). The young man (can't call him a boy after his actions) used his dad's AR-15. What else wasn't broadly reported in the same house was broken into 4-6 weeks ago when no one was home. It is belived this may be a rehit to get the goods replaced by insurance. So far the community has offered to replace firearms, electronics, and other goods stoled the first time around that were not replaced by insurance. They are looking to get a security company to install a system for the family. Great story and a great teachable moment for parents.
