He did far more than that. Murphy and other deputies made an unwarranted entry into a home, and then into a locked gun safe. Murphy's uncensored, darkly disturbing observations and behavior following his Code-3 arrival at the rural home of longtime SLO County resident Matt Hart were picked up by Murphy's and other deputies’ own recorders. Those recordings provide a rare, frighteningly revealing, behind-the-scenes perspective of how one local law enforcement agency views the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and other laws its personnel are sworn to uphold. [More]What oath?

Obviously standard operating procedure.
ReplyDeleteThese guys are being fired and investigated and their assets seized to restore potential victims right? Or are they being honored for creativity??
ReplyDelete(are we going to be sold THAT THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN POLICE SALARIES AND PENSIONS ARE SOOOOO WOOOOFULLY LOW???)
How many other officers and departments approach forfiture the same way? (see, covet, take)
How many officers / departments view their jobs as seeking out the spoils of crime? The drugs, the money, the mythical "throw downs", letting the "perps" go and keeping the profits?
I'm sorry to ask this but is being a police officer a "public service" or a franchise?
Isn't shaking down dope dealers and illegals just one step (above / below) the revenue generating view of community policing? (Community policing = ticketing every car going 2 mph over the limit, looking for seatbelt infractions and seeking every minor revenue generating violation they can find - to make up for deficits caused by their pensions which use up 85% of every dollar most municipalities are taking in these days) These revenue generating police and agencies are working (and fining) to support their pensions.
ACTUALLY seems like a conflict of interest to me!!
More guns within reach - less police on the street.
Fight islam Now
The cops said tax-paying homeowner Hart -- minding his own business in the middle of his acreage -- is an asshole. Vice-President Biden said a store owner who asked for lower taxes was a smartass.
ReplyDeleteI think we all know where we stand now.
These assholes have a lot to answer for. Where are "oathkeepers" ... is there not one police officer on that entire sheriffs dept that is honest? Do they look in the mirror and see themselves as protectors or "Gestapo"?
ReplyDeleteIn the old days these assholes would have had their asses kicked when they were off duty and been warned to straighten up or else!!!
Like I said these assholes have a lot to answer for and someday .. someone will .......
No use looking for the oathkeepers. They shot their wad and proved both their irrelevance and their craven cowardice last April when they tucked their tails and fled the RTC rally.
ReplyDeleteThey are and always have been a self ego stroking mutual masturbation society. Anyone with any sense of honor would prefer to work for the mafia rather the the Gov. The mafia at least has a basic honesty of purpose and doesn't try to convince their victims that they are acting for the public good.
"Why, your honor, I've heard about gang members dressing like police on home invasions. It's my habit to always have a full magazine -- or something with a full magazine -- even when I'm just sighting in my rifle on my property, as I have done for years. I feared for my life. I'm truly sorry for the deputies' families' loss. This all could have been avoided with a simple phone call.
ReplyDeleteNow that the tapes have come out of the officers' attitude toward the citizenry, maybe steps can be taken to prevent such people from being employed in government in the future."
Better.
Some of this crap makes me ashamed to have ever been a peace officer.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking, "Did I ever do something like this to one of my fellow Americans?"
