GRE Round Up for August 13

Here's the latest from my Gun Rights Examiner colleagues:

Dave Workman/Seattle:
When an armed citizen intervenes
Last Sunday at a gas station in the Detroit, MI area, a 19-year-old thug identified by the Westland Observer as Bryan Davis tried to pull an armed robbery, but an armed citizen intervened and in the process very likely saved the life...

A Note About the Chet Edwards Piece

Predictably, some of the apologists are telling us what a swell guy Chet Edwards has been since that F NRA gave him and how he's had a "perfect record" since.

Supporting Barack Obama, who gave us Eric Holder, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan is an example of perfection? There's no cost for giving aid and comfort to proven enemies? Feed us yummy crumbs with one hand--as allowed by your party leadership, which recognizes it as a necessary tactic based on district demographics and which won't make or break a bill anyway--all the while enabling collectivist subversives to strengthen their position?

Oh, right. Politicians are only "dishonest" when they disagree with us. Otherwise, they're "reformed."

Not being a political sophisticate, I just don't understand such things.

Meanwhile, Over in Furious Mike Paradise...

Five females were bound and robbed in a Manhattan apartment. [More]
See, Furious Mike with his taxpayer-provided armed bodyguards prefers that outcome over, say, this one.

We're the Only Ones Felicitous Enough

A number of complaints have been made over the years by people who said a Felicity police officer confiscated illegal drugs but never filed charges, according to the county prosecutor’s office. [More]
So that's not a good thing in this case, is it?

Endorsements

Jesse Mathewson makes his. [Read]

You'll note the name Jim Deakin. Here's one of the reasons why.

Yeah, I Know, Examiner's Screwed Up

I'm getting a lot of complaints about the GRE site this morning. They just did a total site redesign under the theory that if it's not broke, fix that. I wish I could say I can't believe how badly they've screwed everything up, but experience tells me to expect that from them.

I've written them a long and blistering trouble ticket noting all the new complications that fix has produced. Please understand I can't do anything about it. I hope this doesn't totally screw up my subscriber base, because I was just told the email notice is sending people to a dead link.

Patience?

The Key Word IS "Dishonest"

NY's Gillibrand hailed by Brady gun control group [More]
Imagine that.

Now imagine this:
"She was either being dishonest with her voters in the congressional district or she's being dishonest to the voters in New York state," said the NRA's chief lobbyist, Chris W. Cox. "Either way, the key word is dishonest."
So...uh...Spoc...uh...Chris: Aside from the direction he chose as the most politically opportune, how is that "logically" any different from what Chet Edwards has done?

When are you chessmasters going to realize it doesn't pay off in the long run to play with cheaters?

Harry Reid approves ad attacking 2nd Amendment armed resistance potential

Does Harry Reid reject the Standard Model of the Second Amendment?

Yes or no?

...And, assuming they don't agree with the message Harry Reid approved, it's a question NRA ought to insist on him answering, as long as they're still considering him to be eligible for their endorsement. Getting that answer before giving their backing is something we gun owners ought to insist they ascertain. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column notes it ain't about jack rabbits or pork.

Also attend rallies in New Mexico and North Carolina, and a picnic in Connecticut.

This Day in History: August 13

"To William Livingston Esq. Governor of the State of New Jersey & to the Council of Safety… August 13, 1778
Richard Waln's petition to return to his home in Upper Freehold (the largest house in Monmouth County at the time), now Historic Walnford, a county park. Waln was a Quaker, which precluded active involvement on either side of the war. But as a mill owner and successful trader, Waln wanted to continue trading with the British if possible. The Council on Safety ordered his arrest on July 21, 1777. On October 11, he appeared and refused to affirm his allegiance to the government. The Council then let him go to Staten Island with his family "into the Enemy's lines." On August 20, 1778, he returned via Philadelphia and was arrested again, resulting in this successful petition, in which he promises to be a "good Subject." [More]
