Am I Missing Something?

Am I reading this right?  Support a candidate who won't disclose where she stands on RKBA? [Read]

Really?

I have to be totally missing the point here, because the only thing I'm getting from this is that freedom is a "social issue," and if Caren Merrick commits to being pro-gun, the antis will use it against her to scare voters.  So gun owners need to volunteer to help her campaign.

That can't be right.  Can it?

  1. You possibly seem to be adding something. You by nature of your whole post seem to imply that the NRA Questionnaire is the end all be all of commitment to the RKBA. If that is the case, I would have to ask, since when? She is already listed as having an A rating from the NRA, so why bother with their questionnaire if she chooses not to do so. She may not agree with the NRA, may even oppose the NRA vehemently but still be completely pro-gun; I seem to vaguely remember that some pro-gun group kind of started that way - pretty much in opposition to the NRA but very pro-gun.

Now, she did promise to release the questionnaire before election day (or at least before the election, which could be the morning before the polls open), or so it has been reported. I suppose that is reason enough to bother with it and release it. If she does not, I then would say it is political game playing and is also an integrity problem but not necessarily so much an issue as to whether or not she supports the RKBA.

    All the best,

  2. Any idea why she has an A rating from NRA? Because you're right, I've written about plenty of A-raters who turned out to be duds and Fudds, as well as outright betrayers. Her campaign website doesn't even list 2A in the "Issues" section.

  3. Candidates don't even put their party affiliation on their campaign posters anymore. It's just a name recognition game at this point. Realistically, when's the last time you encountered a candidate that actually STOOD for anything?
