At least the formatting is. [Read]
Mike has been having the dickens of a time with the Blogger template--the "new" look is not intended to be permanent. The problem started with the inability to insert paragraph breaks and it looks like when he started pulling loose threads the whole damn fabric unraveled.
I've tried to help him but it's beyond my clumsy capabilities. His entire publishing tool and dashboard looks completely different from mine.
Be patient.
Anybody know any trustworthy volunteers who could advise him?
my best advice is to use the basic html tags to do your text formatting, and never rely on a "richtext" editor -- the fancy text area thing that has buttons for changing fonts, colors, magically adds "enough" line breaks, and so on.
ReplyDeletefor the body of a post, you can probably do 99% of what you need with just these tags: a, br, p, b, i, u, blockquote, pre, img. only other thing is using font and span to change font-face and size, like for image captions.
as for the dashboard stuff, i have no idea. usually need to literally sit next to someone who can copilot you through it. those things invariably come with a one-size-fits-all user interface that is only fathomable to the developer(s). what ends up happening is it doesn't matter how many styles it supports, because only one guy actually knows how to pick between them.
jon, if you have time, please reach out to Mike.
ReplyDeleteAll it takes is one very small HTML mistake in any one post to start the catastrophe rolling. Mike will probably have to go back to the post where he thinks it all started and check all his HTML tags post by post. It has happened to me a couple of times.
ReplyDeleteMy theory, is that he used richtext editor, then went back to "fix" something and that is when it fell apart.
