Think Like an E-gyp-tian

Obama: “We must educate our children to become like young Egyptian people” [More]

  1. I don't know if Obama said that or not (it does sound like something a politician might have said during the "Arab Spring"), but that picture looks 'shopped. Zoom in and you'll see the background around the text differs from the rest of the sign, and has clearly delimited edges: nice sharp straight lines and 90 degree corners. Then again, maybe the folks printing the sign did a crappy cut&paste when making the sign graphic. Be nice to see someone else verify it's real.

  2. American Thinker had a photo represented as a Cairo Airport sign with the same quote at the bottom of this post: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2012/10/obama_quote_displayed_in_cairo_airport_we_must_educate_our_children_to_become_like_young_egyptian_pe.html
If you Google the quote, quite a few hits show up, although I don't see anything yet I'd consider definitive--I'll check later when I have time to see if a bunch of us got sucked in by an internet hoax, but even so, it did provide an excuse to link to that Bangles video...

  3. Alexandria University included the quote in a pdf file posted on their website.

  4. That Boston airport ad makes this look a lot more credible. That's a computer display, so I can see someone doing a half-@ssed crop job (how much trouble would an Egyptian go to for an English poster targeting foreigners?) on the ad image to generate the Cairo poster.

When I have a little more time (to sort through search hits on dial-up) I' want to find the original context of the quote. If it did come from the "Arab Spring" period, it might not be as bad as American Thinker makes it out, since a lot of people were feeling pretty optimistic about the the Middle East at that time.
