Dave missed a fabulous opportunity on a crucial talking point. And in doing so he fell into the squishy agenda-based-news-driven hand wringing meme.
At the beginning of the video clip he pointed out that CT is among the most rampantly "gun" "controlling" states in the union. Then he said, the question is what to do about such tragedies.
NO. The question is, with all these thousands of laws already on the books, exactly which magic "gun" "control" law will suddenly convert lawbreakers--who are breaking all of these laws already, as well as others (including laws against murder)--into law-abiding citizens?
Laws are for the law-abiding. Those determined to break the law cannot be reined in by law. Citizens understand and respect law. Predators and maniacs respect and comprehend only force. They stage dramas of force.
The real issue here is that most parents don't have the cojones to protect their own. If they did, in places where these incidents have happened, parents would be organizing to let everyone know that direct, deliberate threats to their children's safety and lives will be met with lethal force.
We already have lots of gun control. It is demonstrated not to work. Lawbreakers don't follow laws. This is so obvious that one would think we wouldn't have to point it out.
But we do. Again and again and again, and I advocate to all my 2A/RKBA friends--liberal, conservative, and everywhere in between--that they keep making this point in coming weeks and months. Exactly what law is going to magically turn lawbreakers and predators into law-abiding citizens?
"Anti gun-control advocate"? That's some seriously twisted newspeak.
ReplyDeleteWhy not simply gun rights advocate or freedom advocate?
