Markie Marxist sez: "See! History proves it can be done! We can disarm gun owners, and then round them up and exterminate them! And people say it can't be done! Senator Schumer's father was an professional exterminator in Brooklyn. Like father, like son! Ha! Ha!"
To be honest, what you're implying is that the only thing stopping government totalitarianism is the people holding their guns. Realistically, even if we had our guns, the government could overtake the people with the millions of tanks, helicopters, jets, missles, and the many other military technologies that the government has adopted. Believe it or not, technology has advanced since WWI and WWII. You also would have to make an equivocation between the genocidal governments of passed (whom have killed millions) and the relatively mild government today.
The real problem isn't taking or having too many guns, but rather, who has the guns. Gun control isn't necessarily getting rid of ALL guns, but mostly more regulations. The fact that anti-gun control people have to concoct dystopic, illusory futures to defend their positions speak volumes in itself
