Actually, I think the "authorities" are still fooled into thinking that the NRA speaks pretty much for all of us, that if the NRA backs down or compromises - again - that it will quell or stop the debate and they can go ahead and start collecting our stuff.
In at least some cases and places... I suspect they are in for quite a surprise. Of course... all they have to do is leave us alone and the whole problem is solved. They aren't that bright, I fear.
