When I read "A sheriff's deputy suffered a non-life threatening shrapnel wound. The source of that bullet has not been released.", my first thought was that this is another example of poor weapons control, poor discipline, by inadequately trained and improperly motivated police.
But we'll probably never know due to the standard police practice of covering for other police, even when it's criminal in nature.
