They are among the 500 names on the National Rifle Association's absurd new "enemies list"...The first thing that struck me was the preponderance of '70s sitcom stars who are apparently among the leading threats to gun rights in America today...[More]That's because it isn't new, you ignorant, lazy dolt. And it's not an "enemies list," it's a list of prominent people and businesses that have initiated public attacks on the right to keep and bear arms over the years. The antis even had an "NRA Blacklist" site up for years (which I made fun of time and again here), and Dustin Hoffman even got press 10 years back saying he wanted to be on it.
What everyone is reacting to is an ILA update (from last September, by the way) of a page that's been around for many years--the earliest one I can find using the Wayback Machine Internet Archive is from 2003, but I recall seeing the list before then. And here's the "NRA Blacklist" site, also from 2003.
And the thing is, all the "Authorized Journalists" seem to be jumping on this "story." They get their talking points and a meme is born.
But God forbid they actually spend five minutes Googling their subject matter before deciding their hysterical and uninformed judgmentalism is worth propagating on major news websites and influencing millions even less informed than they are. They don't care though, because "Mission Accomplished." I guess as long as they're pleasing their masters, they don't give a damn if they've traded in any vestige of integrity and settled for being useful idiots and hacks.
But I guess when SPLC puts out a list -- even if it causes some of their "gunloon" followers to plan hunting expeditions -- that's OK with these hive insects. And if the government wants to deprive Americans of due process and unalienable rights by creating their lists, and in secret, why, that's even better.
Yeah, Avlon, "most of America." You keep guzzling your own swill, you tool.
Some time back, likely before '03, I called NRA asking about the list. It obviously hadn't been edited in a while then, and last I looked it STILL hadn't been - the misspellings of celebrities' names have stayed the same. It would be useful if someone actively maintained the list, because I don't like spending money with people who will take part of it to try to kill me.
