Reading this I was reminded of the Puritans of Massachusetts Bay Colony, who thought those who followed the Church of England (now called Episcopalians) were Papists as they retained some of the ways of Catholic Church and thought that others such as Quakers were heretics, subject to hanging if they did not leave the colony. Many left for Rhode Island (Providence Plantation) to get away from these religious bigots.
