There’s a plaque at the Chicago Police Memorial for officers who have died in the line of duty. It reads: “It is not how they died that made them heroes. It is how they lived.” [More]That's kind of an ironic observation, all things considered.
The point here is not to pile on or add to anyone's grief, thus no traditional "Only Ones" title--but it is to reiterate that there are those (like Chicago police officials) who would disarm the rest of us and leave guns solely in the hands of the police, using "gun suicides,"among other factors, as a "public health" justification. It's incumbent on them to explain why they aren't first and foremost demanding that a group that is significantly more at risk than the general population be addressed first.
