James "Whitey" Bulger, convicted felon and Alcatraz alumnus, former #2 on the FBI Most Wanted List and now on trial in Boston for 19 murders, had $822,000 in cash and 30 weapons stashed in the walls of his rented apartment in Santa Monica, California when he was arrested. It is obvious how effective Federal and state laws prohibiting weapons for felons were in keeping weapons from Bulger.
