Actually, the answer to your question "how can this not be a hate crime?" is quite simple. Those attacked have NO standing on the Preferred Species ladder, while the attackers are only one rung down from the TOP of that ladder. Or were you still pretending that this country is run under Rule of Law?
I can't condone the attacks, of course, but I always wonder just why people like the preachers take it upon themselves to go anywhere near "gay" events to start with.
How is what the "gay" folks do any of their business? If they want to be free to live their lives as they see fit, they'd better start doing what they can to make sure everyone has the same freedom, whether they agree with them or not.

It's called, MamaLiberty, Freedom of Speech. And it's a basic right in this country, at least when one is on public property.
