Police all around the country shoot dogs with impunity. Dogs that cause no problems in the community, with the neighbors, etc.
It thus appears that the "Only Ones" that some folks believe should be carrying guns, are actually scared spitless much of the time. Police officers have shot 7 pound dogs, because of "fear of attack."
How is it that the rest of the civilized world makes it their entire life without shooting Wiggles, or Scruffy? Police do it all the time, with whatever dog they encounter in their SWAT raids on sleeping families, or entering a premises in a complaint situation. One officer even shot the dog across the fence from the house he was skulking about outside of, because he feared the dog COULD somehow attack him through the fence.
So- why do police shoot so many dogs? I can tell you: Police carry guns every day. After years of toting the gun, many, or maybe most, actually want to shoot someone. If a person won't comply, and put themselves in a situation where they could be shot, a dog will do.
I know this from speaking with a retired police officer - who, BTW, never had to shoot anyone, any dog, or any mean cat.
Oh, yeah - they're always in "fear of their safety." That's likely just an excuse. They couldn't be that cowardly, could they?
