Judiciary Committee set to consider Obama nominees, including Reese prosecutor

To all who says they care about the Reese family, here’s an opportunity to do something simple that will help keep the man who has made their lives a living hell from gaining even more power over even more lives. Now is the time to add a simple action to your words of outrage and concern. [More]

Will you?  Right now?

Chief’s ‘easy machine gun conversion’ challenge unanswered after three years

“Please, Chief Pillo, show us how easy it is to convert a pump action shotgun into a full-auto machine gun,” Bussjaeger pleads in his latest email. “If you are really good, you will accomplish this with nothing but standard off-the-shelf tools and materials found at Lowes Hardware; after all, ‘easily’ wouldn't really include special training, tools, and materials not ... ‘easily’ available to Joe Blow in his garage.” [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner commentary notes it depends upon what the meaning of the word "easy" is.

We're the Only Ones Upset Enough

Chief Freeman was upset when he arrived at the station to get his wife.

His wife was handcuffed and Avon officials say when Freeman arrived, he was upset that his wife and child were in booking. [More]
Yeah, how dare you treat my sticky-fingered little head case like I treat mere mortals!

Not Until July?

Starting July first, a gun worn in plain sight, in a holster is no longer a concealed weapon. [More]
I'm trying to figure out why they need to wait until July to accept reality.

Of Course You Realize This Means...

...what, exactly? [Read]

And if any choose to defy these, will the "enforce existing gun laws" crowd condemn them, and accuse them of making us all look bad, chastising that if we don't like the law, we should work to change it?

Basic Training

Pulse 02DA is offering training materials for first-time gun owners. I have not had time to review their program, nor will I, but I thought I'd put the link out there and let you be the ones to decide if this will be something the new gun owners in your life will find helpful. [More]

In the Line of Duty?

There’s a plaque at the Chicago Police Memorial for officers who have died in the line of duty. It reads: “It is not how they died that made them heroes. It is how they lived.” [More]
That's kind of an ironic observation, all things considered.

The point here is not to pile on or add to anyone's grief, thus no traditional "Only Ones" title--but it is to reiterate that there are those (like Chicago police officials) who would disarm the rest of us and leave guns solely in the hands of the police, using "gun suicides,"among other factors, as a "public health" justification.  It's incumbent on them to explain why they aren't first and foremost demanding that a group that is significantly more at risk than the general population be addressed first.

We're the Only Ones Expired Enough

Part of a police officer's job is to carrying a gun, but now more than 20 officers in Quincy are off the job after a surprise inspection found they had expired gun permits.

The news stunned lot of people and some Quincy residents are outraged that 15 patrol officers and six supervisors are now on paid leave. [More]
Who do these guys think they are?

Heather Fong?

And then there's this:
Some departments allow officers to carry guns "on the badge," meaning they don't need a permit. The badge itself gives them the right to carry the gun.
So it is the magic amulet that makes them so much better than you and me... thank goodness their grip on the public purse is strong enough to guarantee they still get paid for doing nothing as a result of their own lazy negligence!

Speaking of Impotence...

I don’t have the words to describe the cowardice of Congress or the depravity of the gun lobby, which conspired to kill the assault-weapons ban. I can’t explain the apparent impotence of President Obama who vowed to “use whatever power this office holds” to convert the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School into commonsense common good. Indignant little hissy-fitter, isn't he?

Stamp your feet now, Ron. You and Mike Lupica.

The Logical Question

Authorities in central Mexico say a clash between security forces and gunmen armed with AR-15 rifles and grenades left 10 assailants dead. [More]

Well...?  Were any?

Oh, and where'd they get the grenades?

I wonder how many of those efforts have gone back down under the radar.

And how far they'll go.
