Commiefornia, Here I Come

The legislature also passed its first measures limiting gun ownership and cracking down on so-called “straw purchasers” of firearms. Another bill passed Tuesday would require gun owners to notify authorities of a missing or stolen weapon within a week. The legislature also approved measures to require gun owners to lock firearms when someone who isn’t allowed to possess a weapon is present, and to extend gun safety training requirements to owners of long guns. Wait a minute...if I have to lock up a firearm when a prohibited person is present, does that mean I have to excuse myself to a criminal home invader and go lock up my gun?

It'll be interesting to see what Moonbeam will do with these.

God, I'm glad I left that rights forsaken place.

Further Thoughts on the Recall

Also, Doug Rink sends this fun piece from Twitchy:
Colo. recall Senator said if she lost, Mayors Against Illegal Guns should fold up
Then there's this, from our fine pals at The Denver Post: Time to move on? In your dreams, @$$h0!e$.  We're just getting started, and that scares the hell out of you.

I was conversing with a colleague this morning, and noted "This has got to be making some sphincters tighten.  Now if only the stupid Republican leadership would stop coming up with ways to disgust and infuriate their base..."

It's a Beginning

While all eyes are on Colorado, Kurt reminds us of some incremental gains in the heart of another evil empire. [More]

I know all aren't happy with this--I have one correspondent who has shared many objections with me over the way "our side" has proceeded and conceded.  If I see someone come up with a viable plan that has any hope of succeeding within existing political and legal realities, I'll do what I can to promote it.  In the mean time, the gains I see here represent progress over where things were before.

Blast from the Past

Researching substantiating links for this morning's column turned up this old Chicago Tribune piece from 1994.  Just look at this deceptive bull**** that David Roberti pulled in his desperate bid to cling to the power so he could advance even more citizen disarmament, and that staff writer Hugh Dellios and his editorial handlers passed off as ethical journalism:
Instead, the former Senate president finds himself in the throes of a high-pitched election campaign this spring, waving an illegal Uzi machine gun and standing by while aides display how easily an AK47 automatic rifle can rip apart watermelons.
Lie-spreading sacks.

This is from around the same era when a cop in a suit threatened to arrest me because I wasn't an "Authorized Journalist."

OK. Let's Try This Again

Maybe if I don't link to it and just embed it here...

I Took the One Less Traveled By

You gotta be f'n kiddin' me.
Look, I understand you people have to raise money, but this is just plain offensive on so many levels, not the least being what it reveals about how you think of your membership--and the problem is, based on results, you're probably not all that wrong about a critical mass of them.

As for those "vital NRA programs" this will support, does that include helping your "Only Ones" Division achieve its "one goal" in places like New York and California?

I got another ad just yesterday (no, not the dil...uh...wine club pitch) from my old buddy the Vulcan Chessmaster, where he actually said...well here, see for yourself:
No, you might lose yours, but some gun owners are pretty serious about hearts actually stopping beating before that will happen to them.

We get that you need money for outreach, education, growth, programs, politics and court. But enough with the breathless hyperbole that treats your members like idiot ATM machines.  Have you considered approaching them like they're adults who value principles and sincerity, from whom you might be able to learn a thing or two?

Take your balls and go home.

What a narcissist. What a tightly-wrapped headcase.

No wonder he doesn't trust others with guns.

Colorado recall shows power of grassroots in gun debate

"Victory springs from imparting excruciating political pain in unrelenting repetitive attacks on a single politician as an example to others," The Chicago Tribune quoted from a fundraising appeal by recall leader Russ Howard at the time. "We may not win a particular election, but our methods . . . (make) it exceedingly expensive, difficult and unpleasant for the target to remain in office." [More]
This morning's Gun Rights Examiner report notes a newly-discovered power for gun owners that can be a political dynamics game-changer.
