The murderous Fort Hood shooting spree last week could have been prevented if military leaders were allowed to carry firearms on base, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mike McCaul said Sunday. [More]Great idea Mike-- that way, only MAJOR Hassan would have been armed for the first shooting spree!
No wonder YOU'RE chairman!
UPDATE: It's been pointed out I overlooked the part about "senior enlisted men," so do I need to add the category of "NCOOs"...?

Lacking a direct quote or a video, it's hard to tell if McCaul only said commissioned officers or not. The article leads one to believe that he is including senior enlisted "men". Is that E-7 and above, but only the ones who pee standing up? While I take issue with your title and commentary being misleading compared to the article, I think even E-7 and above is WAY too restrictive.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, military leaders are only human. They get their leave denied to attend funerals, too. However, much like in the civilian world, if you're not a tyrant, you have nothing to fear from those whose well-being you are entrusted with.
In any case, McCaul is willing to defer to .mil leadership. That means the mere thought of military personnel having ANY means of self-defense on a military installation is DOA.
Good 'ol Mike. His time in uniform was spent 'manipulating' satellites if memory serves.
ReplyDeleteHe then married into the Clear Channel media fortune and put himself in office.
Probably a member of the 'drone caucus' aka 'more drones now' too.
