I had to learn a more simplified version of this when I volunteered for my ship's defense force. When I was taught basic "night stick" we were shown a similar chart. The best part was when the Marine instructor put on a "Red man suit" and handed us a fiberglass baton.
Medieval recreation weapons training actually came in handy......good times.
I got to watch him tell me, "you put this bruise...here...and here...and I don't know how you put a bruise on the BACK of my leg...."
His eyes lit up when I told him about the Society of Creative Anachronism. "I GET TO HIT PEOPLE?! Show me where to sign up!" was his response.
