ATF quietly laying groundwork to expand multiple rifle sales reporting

“Comments are encouraged and will be accepted for 60 days until June 16, 2014,” the notice advises. [More]
UPDATE: A comment poster pointed out fine print: "Extension without change of an existing collection" which may mean this is limited to the border states--but the notice does not specifically say that, and does not indicate a subset of FFLs this will be required of. The "purpose" statement appears to apply to all. We'll need to watch and see. It's very unclear, and the lack of information means this is something that needs to be investigated to find out for sure.

UPDATE 2: I took the raised concern back to the attys I vetted this with and asked what we should make of "Extension without change of an existing collection." The answer: "I don't think anyone knows for sure, but as [name redacted] already stated, it is likely a precursor to a new rule being proposed."

A second replied “I do not see any information that limits the multiple rifle reporting to 'only' border states in the new collection. The OLD federal register actually stated only the border states. I believe this is going to apply to all FFLs."

I will continue to monitor and update this as relevant information is learned.

UPDATE 3: The estimated hours of burden on this new notice are the same as on the old one.

Hey, I'm sure he was just following department protocol and only wanted to get home at the end of his shift.

Oh look: Nothing in the "news" feed.  Guess this story's not that important if it's beneath the notice of "Authorized Journalists."

Since You Asked...

I just received an account of outrageous conduct by police depriving a man of his guns several years back, with a request for my suggestions about what my correspondent could do about it.  Without giving anything away except no arrest was made or R/O issued, here is my response, and it pretty much tracks with what I tell everyone who contacts me with similar requests:
Unless you are willing to put in the time and money to force production of evidence, there's no way to document this. Back that long ago, it's not even for certain any docs got computerized, or if they're sitting in file boxes in some warehouse awaiting a record retention destruction date.

Without evidence, there is no way anyone but a lawyer can help you. If it's worth it to you, retain one. If he can come up with corroboration, there's a chance a gun group can then feel confident enough in the provability of your recollections to help with legal fees to pursue a lawsuit.

Will your witnesses sign affidavits? Can you and they name names of officers involved? Are they still with the force?

What state are you in? What's the state gun group there?

IF you go the legal route, clam up--don't say anything to anyone, even to me, as much as I'd like an exclusive story--and only release info that has been vetted and approved by your atty.
If anyone has any better advice, I'll forward it to him and start using it in the future.

Making the List

Journalism was not honored or mentioned by the WH this week, only the state-sponsored propaganda peddlers. The true journalists reporting truth forgoes a fat check & tolerates discrediting by the brainwashed masses for sake of truth. So, I will honor them... [More]

Well, thank you for the inclusion. I'm hesitant to add names like Mike Vanderboegh, Will Grigg, Claire Wolfe and others because I'm afraid I'd forget a bunch who deserve to be recognized, but there are definitely trustworthy voices out there, and it's incumbent on us to find out who they are, and then to spread the word.

Case in point, the other day, a lying Prozi sack from The Atlantic, who, by virtue of where he writes from, is able to attract a thousand times more eyes than most liberty writers--so that when we try to correct the record, it's too late because we just don't have the reach.

This is what the Fourth Estate Fifth Columnist "Authorized Journalists" rely on--sins of omission and commission, getting agenda-promoting talking points out there everyone else is parroting, and ignoring important stories that only the freedom-oriented know and care about.

Here's a little example I found earlier today while looking for something else, and it fits perfectly here to illustrate the point.

Thie Day in History: May 6

I have the honour to inform your Excellency that there are in Philadelphia about 30 Invalids capable of doing some duty in garrison, which, if here, would allow drawing so many more able men into the field, as the weather is now favourable for their coming, but will soon be otherwise on account of the heat. I therefore request to know your pleasure concerning them. [More]
