We're the Only Ones Putting the Blame Where It Belongs Enough

FBI Director James Comey blames citizens with cameras for increase in violent crime [More]
How do you expect us to do what we do best if we know someone's watching? And we would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for you meddling citizens.

On the other hand, us keeping you under police state protective surveillance, why, that's for your own good.  Besides, what have you got to hide?

  1. Police deal with violent people. Sometimes police have to get violent. I had to put handcuffs on a few people over the course of 30 years. You know what? Some of them don't want to be handcuffed. Some of them actually violently resist being handcuffed. (Really.) The only way to put handcuffs on them is to counter their violent resistance. To someone who is watching a video of that, and is ignorant of the dynamic, it looks a lot like a beating.
Pictures can lie, and so can videos, and videographers.

  2. And sometimes lack of evidence lets "authorities" get away with all sorts of criminal violence. The cameras stay on. If there's a dispute, that's what we supposedly have a justice system for.

  3. I'm not arguing that no cops ever do anything wrong, or that the proliferation of video is the only reason for de-policing.
But which is more likely: "Oh my God, the videos will show me committing felonies!" or "Someone with a political agenda will use a video of a reasonable and lawful use of force to get an ignorant jury to prosecute or sue me."

  4. Them new-fangled video phone thingies should be banned and confiscated! Too much danger that they will be used to prevent the Only Ones going about their business - in the usual manner.

  5. Law enforcement surveillance and control without video recording by bystanders are the reasons why jails and prison are the safest places to be?

Excuse me while I roll on the floor laughing at my own question.

  6. Your political agenda is showing.
I never said all cops are saints, but your implication that most cops are felons is ridiculous. I also never said that videos are bad, just that they can be dishonestly used. (Figures don't lie, but liars can figure.)
Nobody with two brain cells would ever attempt to wire their own house or fix their own brakes without training. But everybody and his brother thinks he knows how to arrest a violent felon, conduct a murder investigation, or control a riotous mob better than the people who do it for a living.
