There's a "Good Reason" for Tyranny?

The rulers in D.C. seem to think so. SAF hopes to persuade them otherwise. [More]

They'd better, before protesters decide there's more than one Washington to make a statement in. It's not like it hasn't been proposed before.  Several times over the years. And the way things seem to be going, some day it's bound to happen.

Carter SecDef nomination raises concerns for gun owners

Gun owners have a vested interest in seeing this area of authority explored in further detail. The hearings would allow Carter’s position to be made absolutely clear so that interested parties will be informed parties who can then decide on how they want to advise their senators. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes you sometimes find a gun rights nexus in places you'd never think to look...

For Better or for Worse

Like it or not, it's gonna happen. [More]

Like it or not, Mike's going.

That means all the pro and con advice is now a moot point.

This is the new paradigm all of us, but especially the "gun groups," need to get used to, because it effectively nullifies any "compromises" some may be inclined to agree to. Ultimately, people are going to choose to obey or disobey. Ultimately, people are going to choose if they wish to confront. Once the decision is made, our approval and agreement don't matter. Nothing we say or do is going to stop it.

Once the decision is made, we can condemn them as extremists who make us all look bad, or we can remind any so inclined that the real extremists are those who would deny rights and force their will on others.

I suppose we'll see how many urging "go" will go themselves, and how many who won't will help with the legal costs. But for now, let's think positive, and hope that this turns out to be the genius move some believe it to be.

I don't recall ever praying to be proven absolutely wrong before. That is now my prayer.

Newsworthy

Eight miserable MILMs make pains in the ass of themselves at a local Kroger. The public certainly has a need to know about that. [More]

Not Quiet on the Western Front

The culture war is still in the cold stage. [More]

There are some people who need to realize that could quickly change if the pressure doesn't let up. And there are others who do realize, and are intentionally provoking with each new calculated assault on liberty.

The Particulars

NRA beating this particular drum in this particular way is particularly galling. [More]

They had to be dragged in -- and you can prove that for yourself by following the way the story was finally forced into the public consciousness -- which naturally assured they would never, ever acknowledge those doing the prodding. It's hardly surprising to see that "tradition" continue.

They never weighed in until after Grassley started making noises. Guess what had to happen before he did.

No offense or disrespect is meant toward the outstanding and original work done by Sharyl Attkisson, but if you click on the "prove...yourself" link, you can see how much preceded the first CBS News report. If your exposure is limited to what the big boy media and the guys driving the weinermobile say, you'd never know any of that.

You Win Some, You Lose Some

Lane County Flip Flops, Wasco County Steps Up [More]
Politicians cheese out because they think they can. They think they can because not enough gun owners have convinced them they can't.

One Hurdle Cleared

A bill to repeal the requirement for background checks on firearm transfers between private individuals and the fees levied to carry out the background checks passed the Senate Judiciary Committee today on a 3-2 vote. [More]
I'll bet these guys are going to be relieved.  My sources tell me they've basically been shut down, frozen in fear over the prospect of running afoul of a "gun law."

UPDATE: I am told "All the house bills died in committee along partisan lines, 6 -5. These are the repeal of the mag ban, repeal of the 'universal' background check and extending self-defense rights to one’s business."

For the Children

Who would you rather have on your side in a self-defense situation -- any number of "prominent" anti-gun males, or this 11-year-old girl? [More]

This Day in History: February 3

Mr Fitz-Herbert presents his Compliments to Mr Adams, and as he is obliged to go to Versailles tomorrow, begs leave to propose to him and the other American Ministers Plenipotentiary for the Peace to meet at his (Mr F’s) lodgings on Wednesday next at eleven o’clock for the purpose of conferring together upon the subject of the definitive treaty...
