Exclusive: A Mess Of Pottage

Users there, and wherever else states have made it “legal,” like in Colorado, may not know and may not care, but they’re disqualifying themselves from owning a gun, even if their use is compliant with state laws. That’s because the federal government prohibits anyone who is a marijuana/controlled substance user from buying a gun and ammunition, and per ATF, it doesn’t even matter if the purchaser has a medical marijuana card. Cannabis club to replace last San Francisco gun store? Like Esau, some are trading their birthright for a mess of pot. My latest GUNS Magazine "Rights Watch" column is now online.

  1. I've mentioned the pot use and prohibited persons factor on some discussion boards as well as Face Book. Folks either say I'm wrong, or they say they'll lie on the 4473. Not a good choice there my friend. Cut back on the pot until you can understand the meaning of "Club Fed".

  2. So a poor choice to have to lie or a poor choice to be even asked about whether or not someone smokes a plant in order to exercise a constitutionally enumerated right? I love how gun owners demonize cannabis while at the same time proclaiming that liberty and freedom are top priorities. Good job spreading debunked 1930s government propaganda. Understand that millions of veterans who put their assea on the line now use cannabis to treat problems that used to require opiates or powerful mood altering drugs.

  3. I have never advocated for drugs being illegal, and as a matter of fact made a special point of citing how the government is totally without Constitutional authority to do so. Did you not read the whole article in your rush to confirm your preconceptions?

The very name of this blog is derived from the similarly unconstitutional War on Drugs. Go ahead and cite one statement I made that is not a true accounting of the way things are. Then find one advocacy statement I made saying I agree with or condone the war on drugs. You won't be able to, because you're reading your own biases into what I wrote.

Good rule of thumb, Mr. Koestner -- familiarize yourself with the terrain before launching an assault.
