Clayton E. Cramer published research titled "Colonial Firearm Regulation", describing that during the 1600's the the Massachusetts Bay Colony and Plymouth Colony governments required all adult males to be armed, detailing the type of arms. Other colonies had similar laws.
So, I propose that automotive magazines advocate that we all own vehicles of at least a minimum displacement and horsepower. Otherwise, we are condemned to modern versions of the Deux Chevaux or public transportation:
