Then, a customer at the bar pulled out his handgun and shot and killed Jones. Police have confirmed the customer had a CHL and charges won't be filed against him. “He made the decision to engage the shooter, fearing there would be other loss of life,” said Cook. I have lived in a state that was "may issue" for concealed carry firearms licensing and allowed concealed carry in a bar. Storage of a firearm in a vehicle was prohibited. I now live in a state that is "shall issue" but does not allow concealed carry in a bar except for LEO. The state does allow storage of a firearm in a vehicle. In which state did I feel safer? Well, in my current state, if I see a firearm printing, then I must conclude that it is either an off-duty LEO or someone non-compliant with law. There is no way to determine which one is which. In my former state, I concluded that someone was like me and carrying a firearm. Was that person compliant with the law and licensed to carry? That did not concern me.
ReplyDeleteIn either state, the reported use of firearms on the premises of a bar was very low except for one incident in my current state. Someone presented themselves with a rifle and proceeded to shoot and kill or seriously wound many people. However, since most are compliant with law, whatever that may be, there was no one else carrying a firearm to shoot and stop the threat imposed by the wielder of the rifle. I would not define my current state as "safer".
