A Tale of Two Gun Groups

Chris Cox and Wayne LaPierre agree with the gun-grabbers:
"Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law.  The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations."
They just gave the green light for Republican betrayal.

Meanwhile, GOA takes a more principled stand:
"Gun Owners of America opposes a ban on bump stocks. Bump stocks were approved by the ATF during the Obama administration to help gun owners with disabilities fire their weapons.  Any type of ban will be ignored by criminals and only serve to disarm honest citizens.  Perhaps that’s why 91 percent of police believe a so-called “assault weapons” ban will have no effect or a negative effect on crime.  And given that 95 percent of cops think that a ban on large capacity magazines would be ineffective in reducing violent crime, it’s hard to imagine they would regard bump stocks any differently.
UPDATE: Add SAF/CCRKBA to the "let's talk about it" side.

  1. I'd say, appear reasonable, then quid-pro-quo for CCW reciprocity and remove suppressors from the NFA...but that's giving 1 more inch to the Statists who know this whole message proves that all their laws do nothing to stop committed criminals.

Libshits would go weak-kneed and crumble.

  2. Well, any hope of non NFA suppressors is now dead. Any hope of lifting import bans and getting rid of 922r is gone. Look to the NRA to cave on .50 cals and Shockwave type “firearms” next.

Don’t give me your trade off spiel.

This is a total capitulation. They aren’t going to get ANYTHING in return.

There is a whole laundry list of things they will cave on as they walk backwards, feeding the wolves as they go.

Best of luck to all of you who think your stuff is safe. I’d be buying stock in larger diameter PVC tube manufacturers if i were you.

  3. GD quislings. The lot of them.

"Oh yes, let's appease the hungry pack of wolves by offering them a snack.
That will make them go away..."
By offering this to the collectivist mob it signals acceptance of blame for wrongdoing.
Now they will just keep attacking even more. And demand more tribute.
I notice that as of this post the nra-ila app makes no mention of this betrayal.

  4. Yet another shameful capitulation by the quislings in the NRA and GOP establishment pukes.

The ""bump stocks" allow a high rate of relatively indiscriminate fire. Shooting into a crowd of 22,000 with a single-shot will do the same thing eventually.

Tossing accessories to the gun-control wolves only whets their appetite for more sacrifices.

  5. “Bump stocks were approved by the ATF during the Obama administration to help gun owners with disabilities fire their weapons.”

I’m sorry, but for offering explanations like this, they should at least get a paycheck for writing Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue for him.

  6. I've already looked at Feinstein's bill. As I expected, it has the usual government-loophole.

I say take THAT out of the bill and see what happens.

    That is, delete:

"Except as provided in paragraph (2),"

    and lines 13-17.

  7. Poll from last year:

    http://news.gallup.com/poll/196658/support-assault-weapons-ban-record-low.aspx

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The fewest Americans in 20 years favor making it illegal to manufacture, sell or possess semi-automatic guns known as assault rifles. Thirty-six percent now want an assault weapons ban, down from 44% in 2012 and 57% when Gallup first asked the question in 1996.

  8. Aside from stopping any suppressor reform , this sad event helps the unlawfully created BATF stay alive , and funded.

  9. My NRA membership is expiring soon or has expired. I have no intention of sending them any more money.

I got a t-shirt from then a while back for something that says Stand and Fight. I guess I should change it to Cower and Retreat.

Seriously, what the hell? Do they think the leftists are going to like them because of this? You do not give ground to the enemy. Unless of course you're with the enemy.

  10. Never forget that “Job #1” at the NRA has always been the NRA, not Gun Rights. Nothing demonstrates that better than the latest utterance from the NRA on “Bump Stocks.”
