Just finished reading "Race and Slavery in the Middle East: An Historical Enquiry" (ISBN-10: 0195053265, ISBN-13: 978-0195053265) by Bernard Lewis.
ReplyDeleteAmong other things, it chronicles the centuries-old practice of Arab and other Muslims raiding and enslaving other countries and peoples, oftentimes in direct contravention of religious rulings.
Why a person of African heritage would willingly embrace the religion of those who deliberately enslaved their ancestors (selling them to those awful white people who are still held accountable for acts they were never part of) escapes me.
Must be blinded by my "privilege", or something.
