First You Cry

I got into cordial banter with the woman at the supermarket checkout counter and she called me "Hon." Waitresses have done that, too.

The rage, the shame and the feelings of helplessness just won't go away.

  2. My wife says that, why the worries?

It's common out this way, too. I feel so ... objectified ... when it happens. Straight to the Safe Place, and break out the Playdough, that's the answer!

  4. Sorry, David, down here in the South we know that when a woman, especially a young woman, calls you "hon" or "babe" it is because she thinks you are too old to pose a (sexual) threat or take it as a come-on. In other words, you are a harmless old man. I hear "hon" and "babe" often, the latter more from country girls.
