We believe it. We live in Hidalgo county, hard up against the Texas - Mexican border, about 60 miles upriver of the mouth of the Rio Grande. Long time a corridor for illegal alien traffic and drugs from Mexico. Kidnapping, home invasions, extortion for border businesses on both sides of the border are going up. Travel from Reynosa to Monterrey is very dangerous, having your vehicle stolen and/or shaken down for money is very common. Many of these locations were destinations for rich Mexican shoppers, now not so much because of this threats. Better to fly across to larger cities like San Antonio. Drug cartels notice this and will adjust their tactics, as they did when they changed when drug mules became coyotes guiding illegal aliens across the border. They see an opportunity - and seize it.
