AMA’s Anti-Gun Proposals Put Political Agenda Over Science

AMA meddling to undermine a fundamental right is nothing short of malpractice. [More]
The gunquacks are sticking their bills where they don't belong again.

  1. Most sensible people are willing to leave well enough alone. When other people don't, some really unnecessary and sometimes bizarre legislation can result. And the less sensible who cause the problems that led to that legislation are usually the first to bitch. If certain city councils had not required permits for carrying concealed weapons, then turned around and restricted those permits to the rich and politically connected, Florida would have never passed a "shall issue" concealed carry system in 1987. The decision by Weyerhaeuser in Oklahoma to search employees' cars on the Friday before the opening day of hunting season led directly to the "take your gun to work" laws. A certain pediatrician's refusal to treat patients whose parents were gun owners led to the "Glocks before Docs" laws. The "stand your ground" and "Castle doctrine" laws are more examples.

Unfortunately for them, and us, some folks just can't resist the need to control the lives of others any more than a crow can resist a shiny gum wrapper.

  2. In related news, fewer than one quarter of physicians belongs to the AMA.

  3. Just took my doctor to the range for his first-ever hands-on shooting experience. He's thrilled. And one of the partners in his practice is an AR-15 guy. We're talking about getting together regularly for some concussive relaxation therapy. Dunno is he's a member of AMA or not, but if he is, has not drunk the Kool-Aid.
