'He fired with tragic accuracy': U.S. cop who shot dead Australian woman in her pyjamas after she called for help 'intended' to murder her, lawyers say [More]Conversely to what I just speculated in the last post, proving intent here is considerably more difficult, and I don't find upping the stakes to settle for a plea implausible at all. Especially since Justine's supporters aren't likely to exact the same kind of retribution.

By charging murder the pressure will be on for the cop to plead to a lesser charge. I expect a pleasure of involuntary manslaughter will b the en result. A conviction for murder is unlikely but if it goes to trial voluntary manslaughter could be the verdict. Odds are she would do at most 5 years in custody. This charge is probably a tactic to elicit a plea deal and avoid a trial with the risk of protests etc. if the DA doesn't get a conviction. Trials are risky with no guarantees.
