I don't see this as a cultural indicator. Two centuries ago, we would have seen the same coverage of Chang and Eng, or the Elephant Man, or whoever. People are just fascinated with freaks, and they always have been.
That may be true, Henry, but unlike yesteryear, these days we seem to fixate on the freakish outliers. This fellow was only the latest. Then again, I'm "only" in my 60's, so what do I know?
