PROFILE IN COURAGE: Democratic Senate President Dodges Media after Gun Vote [More]It takes courage to vote against other Dems on that, and it's not exactly like that "reporter" hasn't shown himself to be an agenda-driven troll out for "gotchas" more than news...
I'd think "Colorado's conservative bully pulpit" would be pleased with both results. What am I missing or misinterpreting?

I believe what happened here is the old trick where the party leader makes sure there are JUST enough votes to get the result he really wants, while allowing particular party members in tight or enemy districts to vote against that result. That way, each member to whom he gives one of those “get out of dutch” cards can tell his constituency that he voted the way they would have wanted, while of course all the time his vote was predestined not to matter anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe catch here is that the leader reserved one of the “get out of dutch free” cards for himself, and forced one of his other party members to get in dutch with his constituents.
Thus, profile in opposite-day courage.
