Henry, I accidentally hit the wrong button when publishing your comment. This is what I said, and I did mean to say it: Is the premise of Red Dawn, that the U.S. could be invaded by foreign hostiles and that an armed citizenry would be useless at resisting truly ridiculous, or are our more urbane social commentators whistling past the graveyard of history?
Red Dawn still makes an impact. I saw it in the theater back when I was 15. Last summer I watched it with my 13 yo daughter. Less than two weeks later she had a viewing party with her friends. They were all impressed as well.
She also loved Mel Gibson's The Patriot. Even if she was a little outraged about two armies lining up and shooting each other in a cow pasture. "That's stupid" She liked the scene with Mel and his two sons ambushing the prisoner caravan much better.
Red Dawn was in the 1980's and more of the kids believed in freedom than they do now, after several generations of indoctrination by the left, a large part of the population would actually help out the invaders because they believe that the West is evil. But there would still be a huge chunk of the population that won't submit and it will be bloody.
Well, that was worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteExcellent.

Hey David;
